NEWARK, N.J. --- The NJIT men's lacrosse team kicked off its 2020 campaign and christened its new home field with a 24-7 victory over the visiting Hampton Pirates Saturday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

The Highlanders (1-0) came within two goals of their single-game record of 26 goals, set last season at Hampton (April 6, 2019) in the program's first-ever season-opening victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tachon and junior Colton Johnson each forced three turnovers on the defensive end.
  • NJIT went a combined 20-33 (.606) on faceoffs, with freshman Billy Kroeger winning the most (8-13) and fellow newcomer Nick Gutierrez posting the best percentage (.700, 7-10).
