Men's Swimming Defeated By In-State Rival Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. --- In its first dual meet action of 2020, the NJIT men's swimming and diving team suffered a 169-93 road setback against Garden State rival Monmouth Friday evening.

The Highlanders (4-4) picked up a trio of individual victories in defeat, as Joshua Franco claimed a pair of Freestyle races (200 / 1:44.59; 100 / 47.06) and Mattheau Bonner earned a win in the 200 Butterfly (1:56.38).

NJIT finished second in seven of the remaining 11 events, with Edward Madrigal (200 IM / 1:58.45), Nicholas Lyons (100 Breast / 58.72), Bonner (100 Fly / 52.78), and Franco (50 Free / 21.63) each taking silver in an individual event and combining to take second in the 200 Medley Relay (1:36.05).

NEXT UP
NJIT will close out its dual meet season and honor its seniors next week (Sunday, February 2) in its home finale against Howard. The meet scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
