TOWSON, MD - The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Tiger Invitational, which was hosted by Towson University on Sunday, September 22.
The Highlanders first fell in three sets to New Hampshire (25-12, 25-15, 25-15), before falling to Loyola in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-15).
New Hampshire attacked an impressive .396 in the first match of the day, while holding NJIT to just .072. The Wildcats only committed four attacking errors in the match and forced the Highlanders into 21 attack errors. Additionally, UNH collected nine blocks, while NJIT recorded three.
Sarah Merritt led the Highlanders with 12 kills, while
Udo Nwosu came just short of a double-double, tallying season highs in kills (nine) and digs (10).
In the second match of the day, Loyola attacked .268 and held NJIT to an .094 attacking clip.
Susan Blake had an impressive offensive match for the Highlanders, hitting .444 on a team-high nine kills in 18 attempts, with just one error.
Madi Busler also put together a solid performance with seven kills and nine digs.
Merritt was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance in three matches this weekend. This marked the second honor for the freshman this season, after she was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Terrier Classic in late August.
NJIT returns to the court on Tuesday when it opens Atlantic Sun action as it hosts Kennesaw State. The Highlanders and Owls are slated for a 1pm first serve in NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
