NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team suffered a straight-set loss (25-19, 25-12, 25-22) to visiting Kennesaw State on Tuesday at the Wellness and Events Center.
Tuesday's match was the ASUN Conference opener for both NJIT (1-15, 0-1 ASun) and Kennesaw State (8-5, 1-0 ASun).
The Owls controlled play from the onset attacking .333 and .462, respectively, in the first two sets en route to the six- and 13-point victories to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
NJIT played its best set of the match in the third, racing out to a 5-1 lead that eventually blossomed to as many as six at 13-7. KSU was able to claw back, tying the set at 17-17 and scored the final five points of the game to turn a 22-20 deficit into a 25-22 victory that clinched the match.
Madi Busler and
Susan Blake each recorded five kills to lead the Highlanders, who tied their season-high with seven service aces. Blake accounted for three of those aces, while
Liz Benson chipped in with a pair. Benson once again led the squad with 19 assists, while
Olivia Welsch's 11 digs were a match-high.
NJIT continues ASun play on Sunday when it hosts North Alabama. First serve is slated for 12pm back in the Wellness and Events Center.
