2019 Schedule
NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's lacrosse team has announced its 2019 schedule, which will open against Lehigh for the fourth straight year on Saturday, February 2 at 4pm.
The 15-game slate includes nine home contests and six games on the road. With construction underway on-campus for the new Stadium, which is scheduled to open in the summer 2019, the Highlanders home field will be in Newark, NJ, on the campus of Rutgers-Newark – Alumni Field until construction of the stadium is completed. NJIT and Lehigh will meet for the fourth straight season to open 2019 on February 2. With expectations high entering the 2019 season for the Mountain Hawks, Lehigh has been ranked 13
th by
Inside Lacrosse in its Face-Off Yearbook. Following last season's run to the Patriot League Championship game, Lehigh was ranked eighth in
Baltimore Sun's early 2019 rankings and 11th in Christian Swezey's way-ahead rankings for
Inside Lacrosse.
For the second consecutive year, NJIT and Lafayette will meet on February 9 in Easton, PA. The Highlanders dropped a close, 10-8, decision to the Leopards a season ago.
NJIT will host Delaware on February 16 and seven days later visit Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on February 23. Last season, NJIT fell to the Keydets, 11-9.
The next six games begin a stretch of home contests for the Highlanders, first welcoming Quinnipiac on March 2. The Bobcats reached nine wins last season.
NJIT will host Monmouth on March 5 and close out the three-game stretch on March 9 against defending Colonial Athletic Association Conference Champions UMass.
Monmouth was picked to finish first in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Rankings, including four student-athletes selected to the Preseason All-MAAC team.
The Minutemen advanced to the NCAA Championship First Round, concluding the 2018 season with a 12-5 overall record. The Maroon and White went undefeated in CAA play (5-0), the first team to do so since 2013, and won the CAA Championship with back-to-back victories over Hofstra, 10-6, and Towson, 12-8.
After three straight at home, NJIT will visit St. Joseph's on March 16. The Hawks finished with 11 wins last season and fell in the NEC Championship game.
NJIT will host a pair of games over four days, welcoming Fairfield on March 19 and Wagner on March 23.
The next three games for NJIT will be played on the road: at Manhattan (Mar. 30), Hampton (Apr. 6) and Siena (Apr. 13).
The Highlanders will close out the season, welcoming Georgetown on April 20 and Army West Point on April 26.
The Hoyas, the defending Big East Champions, reached 12 wins last season and advanced to the NCAA Championship First Round, dropping a 10-9 decision in overtime to Johns Hopkins.
NJIT established men's lacrosse as a Division I varsity sport in 2013 and began competition during the 2014-15 academic year. The Highlanders have competed as a Division I Independent for the past four seasons and will begin Northeast Conference competition during the 2020 season.
