Women’s Soccer Ties School Record For Wins in 4-0 Victory Over Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The NJIT women's soccer team tied the school-record for wins, earning its ninth win, a 4-0 shutout victory at Jacksonville Sunday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Southern Oaks Stadium.

NJIT, which has won the last three consecutive matches and last five-out-of-six, improves to 9-3-1 and 3-1 in the ASUN while the Dolphins drop to 1-10-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The nine overall wins and seven shutouts thus far in 2018 tie the school record, which was set in 2017 under head coach Ally Nick.

Nick had a few words after the match, "Today was a great team win. A shutout and four goals on the road is a great accomplishment for our program. I couldn't be more proud of the focus the girls had going into this weekend. This is a special group."

In the 21st minute, NJIT opened the scoring when Katrina Nguyen-DeMary tallied her first goal of the season grabbing the rebound off of her own shot.

Junior defender Emily Heckman added some cushion for the Highlanders, after a battle off a corner kick in the box, giving the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.

To start of the second half, in the 49th minute, NJIT scored again when senior Arianna Gerber served a ball from the left side into Noelle Batista who tallied her first goal of the season.

Gerber ranks first all-time in the Division I record era in career assists with 12 and is three shy from tying the all-time record (15) held by Erika Taugher.

NJIT's leading-scorer Fiona Wright netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 75th minute, burying a long shot into the top right corner.

Amelia Sapirman recorded her seventh shutout of the season and becomes the all-time leader in shutouts in a season.  She ranks second in career shutouts with (10).   Her nine wins in 2018 ranks first for most wins for a goalkeeper in a season.

Sapirman four saves in the win and Brittany Hundley made five saves for the Dolphins.

The Highlanders will host FGCU on Thursday October 4 for a 3pm game at Kean University East Campus. NJIT will be celebrating "Pink Month" and will be accepting donations for breast cancer.
