JACKSONVILLE, FL –
Nicole Loehle's penalty kick lifted NJIT women's soccer 1-0 over ASUN Conference opponent North Florida at Hodges Stadium on Friday night.
Head coach
Ally Nick was proud of her teams performance in the win, " Tonight was a tough game against a very good North Florida team. I am very proud of how our team responded in the second half and our team defending. Amelia (Sapirman) stepped up in net to secure our shut out. A big difference this game was we had players come off the bench that raised the level. We are going to need that again on Sunday."
The sophomore, who scored her first career goal, converted her penalty kick in the final minute in the first half after a handball foul in the box.
The Osprey's (5-5-1, 0-2-1 ASUN) held a 24-6 advantage in shots, with Thais Reiss and Kendra Hoffman combining for 15 of them.
However Highlander (8-3-1, 2-1 ASUN) goalkeeper
Amelia Sapirman helped keep North Florida at bay recording a career-high 13 saves. Sapirman's 13 saves ranks her third all-time in the NJIT record books for saves in a game.
Osprey goalie Rhiannon Conelley made two saves for her team.
The Highlanders stay in Jacksonville for a match against the Dolphins on Sunday at 1pm.
