NEWARK, NJ—Julia Garcia, who completed her four-year college women's fencing career in May, has been named a nominee for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Now in its 28th year, the Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

Nationally, 153 conference-level honorees are nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year. Next, these nominations will be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which will choose the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. The NCAA will announce the Top 30 honorees on ncaa.org in early September.  From among those 30 candidates, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee then determines the top three finalists in each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists.
