MADISON, NJ – NJIT men's lacrosse earned their first ever home program with a 15-8 victory over Hampton on Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders other two program wins came at Dartmouth in 2016 and at Hampton in April of last year.
Men's lacrosse celebrated Senior Day prior to the first face-off, honoring its four seniors
Mark Bannon,
Nick Marzullo,
Ishmael Menns and
Matthew Valdez.
NJIT led the game in shots 45-30, were 19-for-27 from the face-off circle and led in ground balls 38-26 which is a season-high and one short of the program high 39 ground balls.
Cole Robillard led the Highlanders in goals posting a career-best four goals and five points.
Sophomore
Ryan Kaden also notched a career day on his two goals and three assists. Kaden's five points is a new personal-best, as is his three assists.
Aaron Forster extended his point scoring streak to 27 games on his two goals and two assists.
Ryan Darrow also produced multiple goals with two, and
Collin Fogerty,
Jacob Sieber,
John Tachon,
Vincent D'Agostino and
Jackson Boyd registerd the other NJIT goals.
Freshman Fogerty's goal and two assists is a new personal-best for points in a game, while
Colton Johnson also tallied a new personal-best with his two assists.
On their senior day Valdez grabbed a career-best five ground balls and
Mark Bannon notched a ground ball and a caused turnover.
With his 10 ground balls,
John Tachon became the new program leader in ground balls with 150 and broke his own record of ground balls in a season (71) with 79 ground balls this year and two games remaining.
Adam Gonzalez went 12-for-15 from the face-off circle and
Tyler Stevenson, who posted a career and program best 17 wins last year against Hampton, recorded seven wins on 11 attempts.
The Pirates has five different goal scorers, led by Pierce Johnson who tallied three goals and Derian Williams-Sturdivant getting two goals and one assist.
The score was close the first three quarters with NJIT holding an 8-6 lead heading into the final stanza.
NJIT would score seven goals in the fourth, with the first three coming in a span of 57 seconds.
Goalie Paxtin Powell kept Hampton in the game with his 14 saves and for the Highlanders senior
Nick Marzullo posted eight saves in his third win.
The Highlanders have two games left in 2018, the first at Georgetown on April 21 at 3pm the second at UMass Lowell on April 28 at 1pm.
