Brancato Breaks 3000 Steeplechase Meet Record; Garret Wins 200 Meter Run at Ninth Annual Ramapo Invitational

Senior Blake Brancato broke the 3000 meter steeplechase meet record and Ayanna Garrett won the women's 200 meter run as the NJIT men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ninth Annual Ramapo Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Brancato set two records Saturday, breaking the meet and NJIT record in the 3000 steeplechase in his first steeplechase race since last season, clocking in 14 seconds faster, with a time of 9:35.48.

In the women's 200 meter run, Ayanna Garrett took first with a time of 25.70 and third in the 100 meter run with a time of 12.56.

Senior Trish Roche clocked in with a time of 1:10.90, good for fifth place for the Highlanders in the 400 meter hurdles.

Two Highlanders placed in the top seven in the men's 400 meter hurdles, led by freshman Brian Azevedo (fifth) and sophomore Christopher Prasek (seventh), clocking in with times of 58.42 and 58.97 respectively.

Junior Allison Regan placed sixth in the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 5:06.67.

Freshman Sydne Nance was the Highlanders top finisher in the 400 meter run, with a time of 59.14 while Alex Ortega was the top finisher on the men's side, clocking in a 49.42.

Junior Calvin Gould placed second in the men's pole vault with a heigh of 14-01.25 (4.30m).

Freshman Miku Okada was the top performer for NJIT in the women's high jump with a height of 5-02.25 (1.58m).

In the men's 4x100 meter relay, which consisted of Emmanuel Agyen, Daniel Leung, Kwaku Amponsah and Nasiem Chandler, came in first with a time of 42.97.
