COLLEGE PARK, MD – NJIT men's track and field came in third and the women placed 11
th at the Maryland Invitational held on Saturday.
The Highlander men earned 77 points for third place out of nine teams behind host Maryland (162) and Morgan State (142), and the women compiled 14.5 points for 11
th place out of 12 teams, with Maryland taking the top spot again with 207 points.
Daniel Leung placed third in the 100m dash.
Connor Penrod finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.06.
In the men's long jump
Nasiem Chandler placed fifth with a distance of 6.25m.
The Highlanders finished 6,7,8,9 in the discus throw earning six points with
Michael Haraka leading the pack with a distance of 40.84m, followed by
Sawyer Gara (35.65m),
Billy Forrester (35.41m), and
Catello Acanfora (34.58m).
Gara and Haraka then placed second and third in the hammer throw with Gara scoring 47.39m and Haraka 45.69m.
Erick McNamara came in second in the javelin throw grabbing eight points with a distance of 51.30m.
The Highlander women came in fourth in the 4x100 relay posting a time of 51.42.
Miku Okada was the top Highlander performer in the high jump, finishing with a height of 1.53m.
In the women's javelin throw
Alyssa Mitchko finished fifth with a distance of 38.57m.
Both men's and women's track will participate in the Monmouth Invitational next weekend March 23-24.
