NEWARK, NJ—NJIT men's tennis picked up its first win of the 2018 season, topping visiting Navy, 6-1, Saturday morning at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (1-0) won all six singles contests while Navy, who entered Saturday's match with an 8-1 record, posted its lone point, winning two out of three doubles contests. Navy now stands at 8-2.
"Great way to open the dual match season," head coach
Ira Miller added. "The guys came out with passion in the beginning of each singles match and kept their foot on the gas until the finish. Quality win against a quality opponent."
Transfer
Tomi Antoljak, playing at first singles, won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 against Andrew Ton.
Jan Cimrman battled out a three-set tilt against Aries Wong, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 at the second spot.
Lukas Zvikas notched a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Greg Durham at third singles.
Newcomer Abdullah Osman, who joined the Highlanders in January, won by identical scores at the fourth spot, 6-2, 6-2 over Walker Sims.
Co-captain
Zac Castagna was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the fifth spot, topping Gabriel Pilones.
Senior
Richard Rangga also won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1, at sixth singles, defeating Andrew Hicks.
NJIT will return to action on February 10 at 11am, hosting Drexel in the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
