WEST POINT, NY—Army West Point won its fifth straight match, edging visiting, NJIT, 4-3, Sunday afternoon the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Black Knights improved to 9-4 on the season while NJIT, winners of its last three, drop to an even 4-4 on the season.
Army West Point won the doubles point with wins at the first and third spot while posting wins at third, fourth and sixth singles to nip the visiting Highlanders.
The match came down to the fourth spot, which featured Hannah Boubel and
Alba Rosas Garcia. Boubel took the first set, 6-4, but Rosas Garcia bounced back to even the set with a 6-1 win in the second frame. Boubel held on for a 6-2 victory in the third set to secure the win.
NJIT freshman
Advaita Saravanan battled out a three-set tilt at the top spot, defeating Ana Joyner, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Saravanan posted a 6-2 win at second doubles with
Amanda Helminsky, 6-2.
Holly Matson won by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2 at second singles and Helminsky went the distance at fifth singles, earning a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 victory.
NJIT will play its next two matches at home, first hosting St. John's on March 2 at 6pm.
