NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team opened its spring campaign with a 3-0 record, topping visiting Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT, winners of its first three matches of the 2018 season, won five-out-of-six singles matches and earned the doubles point, with wins at second and third doubles to secure the 6-1 victory.

Ira Miller commented. "Fairleigh Dickinson battled hard to take us to three sets in three matches but the boys remained poised and played the big points well."
Since joining the Highlanders in July 2014, Coach Miller, who coached at Fairleigh Dickinson on three separate stints (1985-88, 1994-98, and 2005-12) remains undefeated against the Knights on both men's and women's side.
Highlander duo
Richard Rangga and
Lukas Zvikas teamed for a 6-2 win over Knights pair Billy Bourne and Yousesef Sader at the second spot. Zvikas battled out a three-set tilt at the third spot, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, over Sader. Rangga, playing at sixth singles, came out on top with a 6-7 (5), 6-1, 10-0 victory against Nobuzawa.
Newcomer Abdullah Osman notched a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision at fourth singles over Autuch.
Doubles pair
Jan Cimrman and
Zac Castagna posted a 6-4 win at the third spot, topping Miki Nobuzawa and Maciej Autuch. Castagna recorded a 3-0 (retired) decision over Bourne at fifth singles.
Tomi Antoljak was a straight set winner, 6-1, 6-2 at first singles, defeating Niclas Pietsch.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 1pm when the Highlanders host Bryant inside The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
