NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's hockey team finished the 2018 Fall Semester on a 3-game winning streak (Monmouth game result pending to a later date due to a gas leak) with a 4-3 win over the Seton Hall Pirates.
The victory gives the Highlanders an overall record of 8-10 in ACHA games and 6-7 in the Colonial States. NJIT's home record at the RWJBarnabas Health
Hockey House in ACHA matches is at 5-4.
NJIT had the better of the play in the 1 st period as they scored the only two goals of the period;
Kyle Hilliard scored the opening tally at 4:56 into the game to give the Highlanders the early advantage.
Michael Caufield continues to show his promise as one of the program's brightest young stars with his 9 th goal less than two minutes after and NJIT had a 2-goal advantage after the 1 st intermission.
The Pirates came out with a flurry with two quick goals early in the 2 nd period (one on the power play) to tie the game at 2-2. At exactly halfway through the period, Seton Hall scored another power play goal to take the lead at 3-2. The Pirates had numerous opportunities to extend their lead, but
Martin Paro continued his strong play with numerous sparking, huge saves to keep the game close.
Michael Crincoli extended his team leading goal count to 14 to tie the game nearly three minutes later to get the game squared at three apiece. Senior
Paul Roth scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 46 seconds left in the 2 nd period to give the Highlanders the lead again at 4-3. It was Roth's 1 st goal of the season and points in back-to-back contests.
It was a tightly contested 3 rd period as both teams had numerous great chances at goals, both goaltenders made great saves throughout the period. Seton Hall and NJIT both had three cracks at the man-advantage, but neither team was able to get one by. The Pirates had one last chance on a 6-on-4 advantage in the final moments of the game, but
Martin Paro made a right pad save off a shot from a faceoff win and the puck went into the corner and buzzer sounded and the Highlanders had won the game.
