BETHLEHEM, PA – NJIT women's tennis went undefeated against host Lehigh and Lafayette during day one of the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday.
Head Coach
Zaki Abdelrahman was proud of his team's play, "Overall, our girls managed to win 10 matches out of 12 played today, and I thought that's a positive outcome for today. For me, seeing the girls starting the day focused with a high level of intensity from the first point was definitely more important. I liked how most of them fought and stayed on top from the beginning until the end, especially, the first two matches. If they manage to come back tomorrow with the same mind set and positive attitude they won't have problems posting the same positive results. Also, seeing Brianna (Omar) winning her first three college matches is certainly a good start"
The Highlanders went 3-0 in doubles play against Lehigh.
Holly Matson and
Rafaella Sampaio defeated Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez 6-4, while teammates
Mayar Eltony and
Advaita Saravanan won against Leigh Friedman and Nowak 6-2 and
Adara Omar and
Joleta Budiman beat Casey Zhong and Grace Lin 6-2.
NJIT also went undefeated in singles against Lafayette with Saravanan, Budiman, Eltony, Sampaio, Omar and
Mikaya Hamilton all recorded wins.
Budiman and Omar were also the only twosome to post a win against Army in doubles play.
The invitational will continue on Sunday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
