WEST POINT, NY—The NJIT women's tennis team returned to action at the West Point Invitational Saturday afternoon.
"I would like to thank my players for all the fighting spirit and the intensity they have been showing everyday," head coach
Zaki Abdelrahman added. "They had close matches. They created a lot of opportunities and maybe they could have played smarter on the big points. We will take the positives and build on them. Mayar (Eltony) put herself into the semifinal round after showing an outstanding performance from the beginning of the tournament."
In Flight A singles,
Mayar Eltony picked up a three-set tilt victory over Fordham's Tatiana Grigoryan, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 10-7. Eltony followed up with a win over Payton Bradley of Quinnipiac, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8, advancing to the semifinals.
Mayar Eltony fell in straight sets in the semifinals against Anna Shkudun of Syracuse 7-5, 6-2
Newcomer
Mikaya Hamilton picked up an 8-5 victory over Colgate's Elinor Simek, 8-5, in the consolation round of Flight D singles.
In Flight B singles, Hamilton and
Ines Vujkovac defeated Bryant's Kong/Dun in the consolation match, 6-1.
