HILLSIDE, NJ—Visiting Lipscomb scored three goals in the second half and went on to win 3-0 at NJIT Saturday afternoon in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams.
NJIT's six-match win streak came to a halt Saturday, as the Highlanders move to 6-4 overall, 0-1 in the ASUN while the Lady Bisons improve to 4-5-2 overall, 1-0 in the ASUN.
"We faced a tough Lipscomb team, who will definitely compete for the ASUN Conference championship this year," second-year head coach
Ally Nick commented. "The biggest thing we took out of this game is that we can play with the top teams in our conference. The performance we put out there in the first half, we need to put together for the full 90 minutes."
The Highlanders with two opportunities to score in the 36
th minute came off a corner kick by junior co-captain
Arianna Gerber. Gerber served the ball into the box where
Briana Hackos shot went wide and
Emily Heckman with a chance 35 second later, sailed high.
Sophomore Leah Cernicky opened up the scoring in the 51
st minute with a blast from 28 yards over the Highlander keeper, assisted by senior Jade Abarca for a 1-0 lead. Cernicky notched her second goal of the season.
The Lady Bisons doubled the score five minute later, after Ellen Lundy headed a free kick inside the box for a 2-0 advantage. Natalie DuBoise was credited with the assist.

th minute, graduate student
Carly Berdan with a chance to score from 15 yards but her shot went high.
Lipscomb DuBoise scored her first goal of the season in the 78
th minute off a pass from Olivia Doak. DuBoise, who received the ball inside the box, turned and tucked away the third goal of the game.
Lipscomb keeper Kate Mason notched her second shutout of the season, stopping three Highlander shots while NJIT senior keeper
Amelia Sapirman was one save shy her season-best, grabbing seven saves.
Lipscomb outshot the Highlanders 20-8, with a 10-3 shots-on-goal advantage.
Berdan led the Highlanders with three shots.
NJIT will play the next two matches on the road when the Highlanders visit Jacksonville on September 29 at 7pm and North Florida on October 1 at 1pm.
