RIVERDALE, NY – NJIT men's lacrosse fell to Manhattan 9-4 on Saturday night at Gaelic Park, after the Jaspers scored four goals in the fourth quarter to secure their win.
The Highlanders (1-13) received goals from four different players,
Ryan Kaden,
Matt Brown,
Ryan Callaghan and
Aaron Forster. Callaghan, Kaden and
Jacob Sieber also added an assist each.
Callaghan stretched his point streak to 17 games, one shy of the NJIT program record of 18. The senior has recorded at least one point in the last 17 games dating back to April 2, 2016.
For the Jaspers (3-10), Parker Giarratana posted four points with a hat trick and an assist, with Brandon Grinnell notching two goas and an assist, and the four other goals coming from Matt Garvey, Alex Abiog, Conor Darby and CJ Scharf.
The first three quarters were close, with the Highlanders only trailing by two, 5-3, heading into the final stanza.
Manhattan lead 3-0 before Forster scored his 33
rd goal of the year with 1:59 remaining in the second quarter.
Less than a minute later, Manattan had a penalty called on them giving the Highlanders a man-up opportunity to score again. Callaghan capitalized on the extra man and scored off a pass from Kaden with just over a minute to play before half.
Jasper Giarratana scored with just one second remaining to put Manhattan up by two again.
The Highlanders struck first in the third on a goal from Brown to put NJIT within one of their opponent.
Manhattan scored the next five goals carrying into the final stanza, before Kaden's final goal for NJIT ending the game 9-4.
Nick Marzullo made 14 saves for the Highlanders while grabbing four ground balls and Michael Zingaro made eight saves in his third win of the season.
The Highlanders host UMass Lowell next Saturday, April 29 for Senior Day, where seniors

Jordan Rosal will be recognized before the 12pm face-off.
