STONY BROOK, NY—The NJIT women's tennis team (5-10) fell to Stony Brook (4-8), 6-1, Sunday morning in a non-conference match-up.

The Highlanders started the day off strong, as Alba Rosas Garcia and Nathalie Habegger earned a doubles victory, defeating Stony Brook's Nadia Smergut and Stephanie Chikvashili, 6-1 at second doubles.

NJIT would go on to take the doubles point, as Natacha Minc and Amanda Helminsky defeated Ana Carrion and Anne-Kathrin Hierl, 6-2 at third doubles.

In the singles competition, sophomore Rafaella Sampaio fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 to Yana Nikolaeva at second singles.

Amanda Helminsky fought hard in her singles match, but ultimately fell to Stony Brook's Amanda Foo by identical scores, 6-4, 6-4, at sixth singles.

NJIT will return to ASUN Conference action Thursday, April 6, as the Highlanders travel to DeLand, FL to take on Stetson.  The match will begin at 6 pm.
