CLINTON, SC—The NJIT women's tennis team (7-11) edged past Presbyterian (12-10), 4-2, Friday morning in a non-conference matchup.
The Highlanders started the day off strong, as duo
Nathalie Habegger and
Alba Rosas Garcia earned a doubles victory, defeating Presbyterian's Demi Henschel and Caroline Ferrari, 7-5, at second doubles.
Natacha Minc and
Amanda Helminsky would go on to secure the doubles point for the Highlanders, defeating Beth Taylor and Mary Kathryn Dickson at third doubles, by a score of 6-4.
In the singles competition, junior Rosas Garcia continued her strong play, earning a straight-set victory over Presbyterian's Nicole Croxton
Nicole at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Habegger also earned a straight-set victory, defeating Demi Henschel in a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at third singles.
At first singles, NJIT's
Rafaella Sampaio overcame Presbyterian's Tracy Johnson, securing a three-set victory, by a score of 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
NJIT will conclude the regular season portion of its schedule on Saturday, April 15, when the Highlanders travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on USC Upstate in ASUN Conference play.
The ASUN Conference Tournament will begin on April 21-23, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Florida. NJIT has secured the No. 3 seed.
