NJIT men's lacrosse travels to Lafayette Tuesday for a 7pm game in Easton, PA at Fisher Stadium.
ALL TIME SERIES
The Highlanders (0-11) and Leopards (1-10) have played each other twice since men's lacrosse became a varsity sport at NJIT.
Lafayette leads the series 2-0, defeating NJIT 16-6 on April 7, 2015 and 12-4 on April 12, 2016.
In last year's match-up, the score was close at halftime with Lafayette holding a 4-2 lead. The Leopards posted a five-goal third period to advance their lead to 9-2. The Highlanders put up two more goals in the fourth, but were unable to make the comeback, falling 12-4 at home.
Aaron Forster scored two of the Highlanders four goals.
A LOOK AT THE LEOPARDS
Lafayette currently has a five-game losing streak, with their last lost coming from Patriot League opponent Holy Cross on Saturday, 10-5.
Leading the Leopards this season are tri-captains Eric Joseph, Kevin Lewis and Keegan Hickey.
Lewis leads the team in points with 18 on 10 goals and eight assists.
Joseph and teammate Connor Walters each have 17 points each, Walters with a team-high 14 goals and three assists, and Joseph tallying 11 goals and six assists.
Scott Avery is the other Leopard with double-digit goals, scoring 11 so far this season while adding two assists.
Erick Cannon leads the team in caused turnovers with 24, ranking fifth in the nation in caused turnovers per game, while Chris Adamo has a team-high 43 ground balls ranking him 49
th in the nation in ground balls per game.
John Becker has taken all the faceoff's the last two games with a .577 percentage, while Michael Sullivan has taken 200 this year for the Leopards with a .455 win percentage.
Goalie Johnathan Anastos has started in all nine games he's appeared in with a team-high 97 saves and ranks 24
th in the nation in saves per game (10.78). Matthew Cortese has started in goal for Lafayette the last two games, notching 17 saves this season and a .459 save percentage.
A LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS
Coming off a 10-5 loss to Monmouth on Saturday, the Highlanders have four games remaining in the season, each a chance for their first win of the season.
Aaron Forster leads the team in goals (24) and points (27). Forster recently broke five NJIT records. The sophomore sits atop the NJIT rankings in career assists (16), career goals (39), career points (55), goals in a game (5) and holds the record for goals in a season with four games remaining in the 2017 season.
Forster also has five man-up goals this season, ranking him 11
th in the nation in man-up goals.
The Ryan triple threat of
Ryan Callaghan,
Ryan Darrow and
Ryan Kaden combine for 28 goals and 17 assists between them.
Callaghan has 13 goals and six assists for 19 points and has a 14 game point streak happening that started on April 2, 2016. The senior has scored at least one goal or registered one point in the last 14 games, and will tie
Joe Lomeli's point's streak record of 18 if he records a point in the rest of the games in 2017.
Darrow has with nine goals and four assists and freshman Kaden leads the team in assists posting seven and adding five goals.
John Tachon is the team leader in ground balls with 54 and caused turnovers with 14. Freshman Tachon ranks tied for 28
th in the nation in ground balls.
Nick Marzullo earned the last start for the Highlanders tying the NJIT record, his own record, for saves in a game with 17. The senior captain has 71 saves on the year with a .492 save percentage.
Cameron Cronk has five starts on the year appearing in eight games and stopping 65 shots with a .458 save percentage.
NEXT TIME OUT
NJIT travels to Hampton on Saturday, April 15 for a 12pm game in Hampton, VA.
This will be the first meeting between the Highlanders and the Pirates.
