DELAND, FL—Stetson matched its season-best, recording 20 hits, as the Hatters cruised to a 13-2 victory over visiting NJIT in ASUN Conference action Friday evening at Melching Field.
The Hatters (11-17, 1-0 ASUN) scored a run in every inning but two, combining for 20 hits, 13 runs and no errors. The Highlanders (3-19, 0-1 ASUN) added a single run in the fourth and ninth innings.
Stetson RHP Brooks Wilson picked up his second win of the season, moving to 2-2 on the season, pitching 8.0 innings, fanning 13 Highlanders, walking three, letting up two hits and one run (earned).
The Highlanders most effective pitcher Friday night was its third pitcher – LHP
Justin Chin, who pitched the final 4.1 innings, letting up eight hits, two runs and striking out seven Hatters.
Stetson DH Jack Gonzalez led the way, going 3-for-3 with six RBI, including a triple in the third inning and two singles followed by SS Jorge Arenas went 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. Arenas notched his first home run of the season in the eighth and posted three singles.
NJIT posted four hits –

Matthew Cocciadiferro (1-for-3) and 2B
Tom Brady (1-for-4). Newcomer Cocciadiferro drove in the Highlanders first run in the bottom of the fourth, with a single through the left side while Brady notched an RBI to centerfield in the ninth.
The two teams will return to action Saturday at 2pm on ESPN3.
