In their first meeting, the Highlanders and the Stags come together Tuesday afternoon for a 3pm game at Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
NJIT will try for their first win of 2017, while Fairfield will try to break their three game losing streak.
The Highlanders are coming off a close 10-6 loss to Rutgers, who Saturday was ranked number five in the nation and today sits #3/#1.
A LOOK AT THE STAGS
The Stags recently received (2-5) votes in the Maverick Media Poll that was released on Monday.
Fairfield was picked to finish second behind Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Collin Burke was pick as CAA Preseason Player of the Year and Tyler Behring, Andrew Eidenshink and Will Fox were picked for the All-CAA Preseason team.
Last years CAA-Co Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, Burke is back. The sophomore leads the Stags in every scoring category with 14 goals, six assists and 20 points.
Last year Burke finished the season as the top scorer in the CAA with 46 goals and 63 points and was the top freshman scorer in the nation. Burke was the first freshman to ever win the CAA Co-Player of the Year award and was picked as a USILA All-American Honorable Mention.
For 2017 Burke was picked as CAA Preseason Player of the Year and was chosen by Inside Lacrosse as a third team preseason All-America.
Travis Ford has 10 goals on the year while Dylan Beckwith has four goals and six assists for 10 points.
Face-off man Fox has a team-high 20 ground balls and is 37-of-75 with a .493 face-off percentage.
Andrew Murrow leads the team with seven caused turnovers.
In goal for the Stags is 2016 CAA First Team selection Tyler Behring. Behring has played and started in six games for Fairfield, posing 71 saves and a .538 save percentage. Behring earned Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Honorable Mention with teammate Andrew Eidenshink.
A LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT (0-8) is led by sophomore
Aaron Forster who leads the team in goals and points with 16 and 18 respectively.
Forster recently broke three NJIT records. The sophomore sits atop the NJIT rankings in career assists (15), career points (46, 31g, 15a) and goals in a game tallying five against Rutgers on March 17.
The Ryan triple threat of
Ryan Callaghan,
Ryan Darrow and
Ryan Kaden has combined for 24 goals and 14 assists between them.
Callaghan has 10 goals and is tied for a team-high five assists with Kaden. Darrow has nine goals and four assists, and right behind him is Kaden with 10 points.
John Tachon is the team leader in ground balls with 37 and caused turnovers with nine. The freshman ranks tied for 34
th in NCAA Division I in ground balls per game with 4.63.
Cameron Cronk has started in the Highlanders last three games stopping 52 shots and posting a .473 save percentage. Cronk ranks 50
th in saves per game with 8.67.
