Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Forster Breaks NJIT Season Goals Record in 13-6 Loss to Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CTAaron Forster broke his fourth NJIT record this season in men's lacrosse 13-6 loss to Fairfield on Tuesday.

Sophomore Forster scored four goals in the loss, bringing his season total to 20, and breaking Joe Lomeli's record of 19 from the 2015 season.

Forster needs one goal to tie the NJIT career goals record that Lomeli holds with 36 goals.

Also scoring for the Highlanders (0-9) was Ryan Callaghan posting two goals, with Matt Brown and Ryan Kaden each adding an assist.

Fairfield (3-5) had hat-tricks from Dylan Beckwith and Travis Ford, and Beckwith added two assists for a team-high five points. Five other Stags provided goals for Fairfield in their first win in three games.

In a close first quarter, the Stags went up 2-0 until Cole Robillard fired a shot that was bobbled by the Fairfield goalie that Callaghan quickly picked up quick and snuck into the back of the net.

Forster scored his first goal with 17 seconds remaining in the first, trailing the Stags 4-2 after one quarter.

The Stags outscored the Highlanders 6-0 in the second, making the score 10-2 going into halftime

In the third, after a save from Nick Marzullo, who came into the game at the end of the second quarter, the Highlanders countered with John Tachon finding Brown up the field, who served a nice pass to Forster wide open at the left of the goal.

After missing last game, Callaghan picked up a loose ball and went straight to goal adding another for the Highlanders in the third, and the Highlander defense kept the Stags to only two goals.

In the final quarter, Forster added another two goals, bringing the Highlanders within six before Fairfield scored again for the 13-6 final score.

Cameron Cronk got the start for NJIT in goal grabbing three saves in 24 plus minutes, and Marzullo came in and stopped nine shots.

Winning goalie Tyler Behring made seven saves in his second win of the season.

The Highlanders come back home and host Wagner on March 25 for a 7pm game at Drew University's Ranger Stadium.
