ARLINGTON, VA—NJIT dropped its second game at George Washington, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Tucker Field.
The three-game series, will conclude on Sunday at 12pm. The Colonials topped NJIT, 8-2, Friday evening and 4-1 Saturday afternoon, improving to 5-10 overall. NJIT drops to 2-10 on the season.
George Washington opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, on an RBI single through the left side by Cody Bryant.
NJIT answered with a run of their own in the top of the third, knotting the game at 1-1, as SS
Justin Etts collected the Highlanders first RBI of the game, driving in C
Brady Hall, who led off the inning with a single through the left side.
The Colonials went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a single by 1B Bobby Campbell, scoring 2B Robbie Metz. Metz led off the inning with a single up the middle, stole second and scored on Campbell's single.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings but the Colonials added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, holding on to a 4-1 victory.
George Washington's LHP Shane Sweeney (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and one run (earned). RHP Will Kobos recorded his first save of the season, pitching the final 3.1 inning, letting up two hits and holding the Highlanders scoreless. Kobos struck out four Highlanders.
Campbell went 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Colonials while DH Cody Bryant recorded a 2-for-3 day with one RBI. The other Colonial to drive in a run was 3B Eli Kashi, who finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
NJIT RHP sophomore
Brett Lubreski was credited with the loss (0-1), pitching 6.2 innings for the Highlanders, letting up five hits and three runs (all earned) while striking out three Colonials. Senior RHP
Rex MacMillan pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing one hit and one run.
NJIT, which combined for seven hits in the game, had three players – Etts, 3B
Bryan Haberstroh and LF
Michael Anastasia, finish 2-for-4. Etts drove in the only Highlander run in the game.
