HILLSIDE, NJ—Five different FGCU players scored a goal in the Eagles 6-0 victory over NJIT Friday afternoon in ASUN Conference women's soccer action.
FGCU collects its ninth win of the season, improving to 9-2-1 and moves into first place in the league with a 2-0-1 record. NJIT stands at 6-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the ASUN.
The Eagles exploded for five goals in the first half, holding a 16-0 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes. FGCU edged the Highlanders in second half, 7-3, and 23-3 in overall shots.
The FGCU scorers were: Majorie Boilesen (18:37), Hope Van Wagner (30:23), Boilesen (33:01), Holly Fritz (35:06), Camille Knudstrup (36:11) and Zoey Spitzer (55:23).
FGCU got on the board in the 19
th minute on a goal by sophomore Boilesen assisted by Cassidy Morgan and Emilie Olsen. FGCU's Varin Ness started the play, slipping the ball behind the Highlander defense from the top of the box to Olsen and touched to Morgan. Morgan found Boilesen inside the box and blasted a shot that went off the hands of the Highlander goalkeeper.
The Eagles doubled the score on a header by freshman midfielder Hope Van Wagner, who immediately scored after entering the match in the 31
st minute. Spitzer was credited with the assist.
Boilesen scored her second goal of the match and ninth of the season after a goal in the 34
th minute assisted by Van Wagner for a 3-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, junior midfielder Holly Fritz tallied her fourth goal of the season into the top right corner in the 36
th minute on a pass from Meaghan Mulligan at the top of the box extending the FGCU lead to 4-0.
FGCU went ahead 5-0 after defender Camille Knudstrup notched her second goal of the season off a free kick from Van Wagner in the 37
th minute.
In the second half, Eagles Spitzer tucked away her first goal of the season from 18 yards out, bending to the far post unassisted.

Neema Liverpool recorded the Highlanders lone shot on goal while freshman
Jennifer Callaghan and
Carly Berdan each posted a shot.
Eagles Melissa Weck combined for the shutout, stopping one Highlander shot in 79:19 minutes while backup keeper Elyse Hansen finished the final 10:41. NJIT senior
Amelia Sapirman combined for five saves in the first 45 while graduate student
Karen David grabbed one save in the second half.
NJIT will return to action on Sunday at 1pm, hosting Stetson at Kean University East Campus Facility.
