NEWARK, NJ – In the first Colonial States College Hockey Conference game of the season, the NJIT men's ice hockey game were not able to get much going offensively in a penalty-filled game, losing 3-1 to Seton Hall.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak vs. Seton Hall and the first home loss on the young season.
The Pirates scored the only goal in the 1
st period on the power play to grab a 1-0 lead after one period of play. Seton Hall extended their lead to a two-goal advantage early in the 2
nd period.
But, the Highlanders were able to strike back quickly as
Kyle Hilliard playing against his former team, was get a tip of a
Will Hoer slapshot that deflected off a maze of players, cutting their deficit to one.
Unfortunately, Seton Hall was able to regain their two-goal lead a few minutes later in the period and lead 3-1 after the 2
nd intermission.
NJIT was not able to muster much offense in the 3
rd as the high volume of penalties continued to accumulate on both sides.
The final score remained as it did after the 2
nd period, 3-1.
Martin Paro made 29 saves in his 1
st full game of action.
The Highlanders next game is tonight at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House against West Chester Golden Rams at 8:30 pm.
