NEWARK, NJ– NJIT continued their winning ways to start the 2016-2017 season with a 3-1 win over the Fordham Rams Saturday night.
In the first game of a home and home set with the Rams, the Highlanders got off a good start when
Matthew Lepinski scored from a shot right in front of the net off a great pass from
Phil Lelikov.
In the 2 nd period, Niko Crincoli blasted a slap-shot from the blue line that was too fast for the Fordham netminder to make a play on to give NJIT a 2-0 lead.
A few minutes later,
Adrian Wong scored his first career goal on a shot from the right point off a feed from
Austin Pencinger to extend the Higlander lead. Fordham was able to get on the board late in the period and therewas no scoring in the 3 rd . The victory gives NJIT an early 2-0 record at the Barnabas Health Hockey House.
Highlander freshman goaltender Matthew Altomore making his college debut made 33 saves to get his 1 st win.
NJIT will head to Fordham to complete the home and home set tomorrow afternoon.
