RIVERDALE, NY – The NJIT women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Manhattan on Sunday afternoon at Gaelic Park.
The Highlanders (4-2-2) outshot the Jaspers 16-12 overall with an offensive burst in the second half.
Highlander senior goalkeeper 
Karen David was tested early on in the first half, by a pressing Jasper offense.
The shots were close in the first half in favor of the Jaspers 9-6.
Nicole Copping shot the ball from just inside the box that hit off the cross bar, and minutes later David stopped a point blank shot from Copping to keep Manhattan off the board.
Freshman 
Lizzy Wolfe pushed the Highlander offense with their first threat on goal when she charged into the box with the ball and shot the ball just wide of the net.
Arianna Gerber got into the mix for NJIT when she ran the ball down the left field line beating three defenders and shooting the ball just wide of the goal. Sophomore Gerber tallied three of the Highlanders six shots in the first half.
In the 39
th minute, NJIT almost posted a goal when Gerber scored off a corner kick by 
Nicole Baldassini, but the goal was immediately overturned by an offside call.
The Highlanders kept the pressure up in the start of the second half getting three opportunities in the first five minutes of play.
NJIT's closest chance came from 
Carly Berdan, when she was stopped in the box right outside the goal line by Jasper keeper Olivia Printy.
In the second half, the Highlanders tallied 10 shots to the Jaspers three, but Manhattan made one of their three shots count.
In the 72nd minute, Emma Saul put Manhattan ahead when she dribbled in the box around Highlander defenders and beat David to the far post.
The Highlanders tried to capitalize on another corner kick in the final 10 minutes when freshman 
Emily Heckman got her head on a cross from sophomore 
Alex Gilgorri.
NJIT's David recorded three saves in the Highlanders loss while Printy made six saves for the Jaspers.
NJIT will return to action when the Highlanders visit Marist in  Poughkeepsie, NY on September 14 at 7pm.
