MACON, GA— The 2016 ASUN Mascot Challenge semifinals concluded on Wednesday, July 20 with the NJIT Highlander advancing to the finals for the second straight year, defeating Scrappy the Owl.
The Highlander advanced to his second straight ASUN Mascot Challenge final after collecting a steady stream of votes on the semifinal day. The Highlander took the early lead at the 12 p.m. update mark by 462-346. That lead increased throughout the afternoon as the Highlander faithful continued to vote on the three social media platforms.
Scrappy fell behind 641-427 at the 2 p.m. mark, and was unable to mount a late rally to fall in the semifinal round for the second straight year.
The Highlander will look to repeat when he faces a familiar foe, Azul the Eagle in the Mascot Challenge Final on Thursday, July 21.
The Highlander defeated Scrappy the Owl – 1,548-489.
