NJIT Women’s Tennis Slated to Begin 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Friday

SPARTANBURG, SC—
NJIT, the number six seed, will open postseason play against third-seeded Stetson at the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by USC Upstate on Friday at 2pm held at the USC Upstate Tennis Outdoor Facility.

The action begins with No. 4 Lipscomb facing No. 5 Kennesaw State at 1pm, followed by No. 3 Stetson and No. 6 NJIT at 2pm.

NJIT, in its first season competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference, dropped a 6-1 decision against Stetson in the regular season in Newark on March 26.  NJIT's lone point came at second singles by Nathalie Habegger, who won by identical scores, 6-3, 6-3, in defeating Stetson's Arijana Korac.

--NJIT advances to the A-Sun Championship for the first time in program history. 
--Rafaella Sampaio represented the Highlanders on the A-Sun Postseason Awards, earning All-Freshman team honors.
--Alba Rosas Garcia led NJIT with nine singles wins this season, including going 3-3 in conference play.
--Nathalie Habegger played on both courts one and two this season, earning wins against two A-Sun opponents.
--Marija Tosic/Ines Vujkovac and Amanda Helminsky/Rafaella Sampaio were the only doubles pairs to record victories in conference action this season for NJIT.
--The Highlanders recorded their first A-Sun win in team history against USC Upstate, 7-0.

Last Three Results: L, 6-1 at FGCU (4/9); L, 5-2 vs. North Florida (4/16); L, 7-0 vs. #56 South Florida (4/17)
- The Hatters lost their lone match in the A-Sun Championship last season, 4-1 to FGCU. The Hatters advanced to the title match in 2014. 
- Stetson's Eveline Lepinay has won 14 matches on the singles court this season, all at the first position, most in the league. 
- Both Carolina Meregalli and Arijana Korac joined Lepinay by winning four singles matches against league opponents. 
- Lepinay and Maja Salibasic teamed as Stetson's most productive doubles team, notching wins against three conference foes this year.
- All-Academic Team member Meregalli competed primarily at the No. 5 slot this season. 
- Ashley Dean and Alexandra Lyubimova partnered in doubles just for conference action and notched three wins.

- In last year's A-Sun Championship, Lipscomb defeated Northern Kentucky in the First Round by a score of 4-0 before falling to UNF in the Semifinals. 
- Junior newcomer Hanna Victorsson led the Lady Bisons this spring with 14 singles victories, owning a 4-2 record against A-Sun competition. 
- Laura Kent earned First Team All-Conference honors for Lipscomb finishing 4-1 in conference singles action. 
- Freshman Katerina Kandyba partnered with Victorsson on the doubles court as the duo compiled a record of 9-4 on the year, 3-2 against A-Sun foes. 
- The Bisons finished the conference season with a 10-6 mark in doubles action. 
- With one more victory, Lipscomb would set the program record for victories with 14.

- The Owls are searching for their first A-Sun Championship victory in school history after falling to FGCU last season. 
- Alexandra Mercado led Kennesaw State with seven singles victories this season, including a 3-3 record in A-Sun action. 
- Sophomore Cristina Martin took home Second Team All-Conference honors after a 3-2 year in conference play.  
- The pairs of Laura Hopton and Ashleigh De Wet and Isabela Castro and Gabriela Bueno led the Owls on the doubles courts, both notching two wins in conference action. 
- Kennesaw State found the most success in singles on court four, amassing a record of 8-10. 
- The Owls won two of their final three matches, their best run of the season.

No. 1 North Florida and No. 2 FGCU - First Round Byes
A-Sun Championship Look Ahead: North Florida awaits the winner of No. 4 Lipscomb and No. 5 Kennesaw State, while FGCU awaits the winner of No. 3 Stetson and No. 6 NJIT.

- This year marks the fourth time in the last five years UNF has been the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Championship.
- The Ospreys completed a perfect 6-0 slate against A-Sun competition. 
- UNF is a combined 61-34 in singles play this season, 30-6 in A-Sun matches. 
- North Florida has dropped just four doubles matches in A-Sun play.
- Quetzali Vazquez leads the squad with a 12-5 record on the singles court this season, while A-Sun Player of the Year Noemi Hemmerich and First Team All-Conference member Luise Intert both boast 11 wins. 
- Both Intert and Vazquet tallied perfect 6-0 records in A-Sun competition this season.

- In 2015, the Eagles advanced to the A-Sun Championship Final for the first time in school history before falling to North Florida. 
- FGCU's Joselyn Treyes Albarracin was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year after an 11-6 record in singles play, 5-1 against A-Sun teams. 
- Freshman Laura Falceto Font earned the most wins of any Eagle on the team this season with 13, including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference action.
- FGCU's doubles tandem of Julianna Curtis and Julia Ascua were a dominant force for the Eagles, going 6-0 in A-Sun play, 13-2 on the season. 
- FGCU went 30-6 in conference singles matches this year. 
- The Eagles are seeking just their second win in the semifinals ever, the first coming last year.
