NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team notched its first Atlantic Sun Conference victory in program history, sweeping visiting USC Upstate 7-0 Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (1-5 in A-Sun, 5-14 overall) took the doubles point after wins at the second and third spots, before cruising in singles contests, to claim the sixth seed in the A-Sun Championships, to be held at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The Highlanders will face third-seeded Stetson on April 22. The winner will move on to face second-seeded Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, April 23.

Ira Miller added. "The team was much focused and it showed in how well we played in the doubles. The ladies never took their foot off the gas and rolled through the opposition without dropping a set. A-Sun playoffs here we come!"
USC Upstate concludes the 2015-16 season with a 0-21 overall mark, 0-6 in the A-Sun.
NJIT freshman duo
Amanda Helminsky and
Rafaella Sampaio teamed for a 6-2 victory at second doubles, topping Carol Sigaki and Val Zarama. Sampaio won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 6-3, defeating Anna Zoske.
Highlander pair
Ines Vujkovac and
Marija Tosic won 6-2 at the third spot against Ruby Kubac and Anna Nemeth.
Nathalie Habegger, competing at second singles, won 6-1, 6-0 over Filippa Ericson, while
Alba Rosas Garcia won by identical scores at third singles against Zarama.
USC Upstate forfeited fourth, fifth and sixth singles.
