TEANECK, NJ – Women's fencing recorded four wins and two losses at the FDU Invitational on Sunday, to increase their record to 6-21 in 2016.
NJIT defeated Hunter, 14-13; Queens, 18-9; LIU Post, 19-8; and, Yeshiva, 22-5, while losing 12-15 to Drew and 7-20 to host Fairleigh Dickinson.
Leading the Highlanders was freshman
Maria Sztan who posted a 17-1 overall record helping the epee squad produce a 5-1 on the day, losing only to FDU.
Sophomore
Jule Shigihara, who made her first appearance on the epee strip, tallied a 14-1 record.
Shigihara also defeated FDU 3-0 on the foil strip, while sophomore
Julia Garcia recorded a 13-4 record on the day.
Senior foilst
Michelle Potestio earned a 9-5 record, with wins over Queens, Yeshiva and Drew.
Women's fencing heads to Penn on February 21 to compete in the Philadelphia Invitational at 10am.
