NEWARK, NJ—NJIT women's tennis won its third consecutive match, sweeping visiting Fairfield Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT, 3-1 at home, will close out its five-game homestead hosting Fordham on Sunday at 1pm. The Highlanders lone home loss came against Seton Hall.
The Highlanders swept the doubles point and won in straight sets in five out of six singles contests to earn the first sweep of the season.
"Another strong win by the Highlanders. We came out strong in the doubles and kept the momentum through the singles," second-year coach
Ira Miller added. "Rafaella (Sampaio) and Natalija (Tasovac) have had great starts to the spring season."
Doubles pair
Nathalie Habegger and
Natalija Tasovac won 6-2 at first singles, topping Nicole Aragones and Courtney Connors. Habegger was a 7-5, 6-3 winner at first singles, defeating Aragones while Tasovac battled out a three-set tilt at the sixth spot against Cecilia Parla, 4-6, 6-0, 10-3.
Highlander duo
Alba Rosas Garcia and
Ines Vujkovac swept a 6-0 decision from Parla and Gabriella Campos at third doubles. Vujkovac and Rosas Garcia won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1 at third and fourth singles respectively.
Freshman
Rafaella Sampaio recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Karen McKeough while classmate
Amanda Helminsky combined for a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fifth spot, defeating Campos.
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday at 1pm, hosting Fordham.
