NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team won its second straight match with a convincing, 5-2 victory over visiting Marist Wednesday afternoon in the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
Freshman
Rafaella Sampaio clinched the match for the Highlanders (2-1) by defeating Caroline Lozo in a three-set tilt, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 at second singles. Sampaio was a double-winner, teaming with classmate
Amanda Helminsky at second doubles. The pair went on to win 6-4 against Lozo and Ariel Shulman.
Another standout performer for NJIT was junior
Nathalie Habegger, who defeated Karly Pang at first singles by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2. Habegger and sophomore
Natalija Tasovac combined for a 6-4 victory at first doubles, defeating Pang and Claire Schnitz of Marist.
Tasovac won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth spot against Sophia Mueller while fellow sophomore
Alba Rosas Garcia defeated Shuman in a close match at fourth singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7).
NJIT will return to action on Sunday at 1pm when the Highlanders host Fordham at 1pm in the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
