STONY BROOK, NY
-- Stony Brook's Lucas Woodhouse missed a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer and NJIT (7-8) held on for a 64-61 win over the Seawolves (4-8) on Wednesday night at Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook.

This marks the first time that the Highlanders have defeated Stony Brook as a Division I program. NJIT is 2-0 against the America East Conference this season and has won seven of their last 10 against the conference.

In the final minute of the game, the Highlanders held a 64-61 lead and senior guard Damon Lynn missed a pair of free throws that would have iced the game before Woodhouse's desperation heave on the other end rimmed out at the buzzer.

"Anytime you can win on the road is great, it was a really nice win for us," head coach Brian Kennedy said.

NJIT led for most of the game, but the lead never grew bigger than eleven and Stony Brook hung around until the final buzzer.

Lynn hit 10-of-13 from the charity stripe on the night en route to a game-high 26 points for the Highlanders. Senior forward Tim Coleman added 20 points for the visitors and sophomore center Abdul Lewis chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

"Damon is a born scorer, he'll have games where he doesn't play well and you'll get the box score and he still ends up with 22 points" Kennedy said. "He just finds way to score."

Sixteen of Coleman's 20 points came in the first half and the senior co-captain set a new career-high with four three-pointers in the contest.

Woodhouse paced Stony Brook with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting and junior guard Roland Nyama added 11 points of his own.

Coleman hit a layup with 16:13 to play to give the Highlanders a 42-34 lead before the Seawolves responded with a 14-9 run over the next 11 minutes to cut the lead to 51-48.

In the final minute of the game, NJIT's Mohamed Bendary hit a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to seven at 62-55 with 0:49 left. Woodhouse scored the next four points though with a jumper and a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to three.

Woodhouse's jumper with 12:12 left in the first half gave Stony Brook their only lead of the game at 14-13 before the Highlanders responded with a 25-13 run capped by a three-pointer from Lynn to open up their biggest lead of the night at 38-27.

The Seawolves closed the half on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to four heading into the locker room.

Lynn hit two-three pointers on the night to pass Steph Curry and move into eighth place all-time in career-three pointers made (415) in NCAA Division I history.

"My name next to Steph Curry, that feels great. He's a unanimous NBA MVP so I have lots of respect for him and the records that he's set," Lynn said.

The Highlanders outrebounded the Seawolves by a 37-36 count, led by the 11 rebounds from Lewis and eight from Coleman. Tyrell Sturdivant paced the hosts with nine boards.

NJIT will have some time off before returning to action a week from tonight when they host Brown (8-5) in their final non-conference game of the season. Opening tip from Fleisher Athletic Center is slated for 7 p.m.
