PHILADELPHIA – The men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Elite Penn Invitational held at the Hutchinson Gymnasium on Saturday.
The men competed against No. 5 Notre Dame, Yale, Johns Hopkins, No. 1 Columbia, No. 8 Penn, and No. 3 Princeton, while the women also took on Princeton, Penn and Yale and No. 21 North Carolina and No. 16 Temple.
The NJIT women went 0-5 overall, while the men posted two wins against Yale and Johns Hopkins.
The Highlander foil squad of
Henrique Marques,
David Kong and
Simon Rizell all posted winning records and finished 28-17 overall.
Marques went 12-6 on the day wining against each team except Columbia 1-2, while Rizell posted a 11-7 record and Kong went 10-8.
On the epee strip
Gal Gluhic went 9-3 defeating Notre Dame, Yale, Columbia and Penn.
For the saber team,
Greg Puccio was the only one with a winning record, 10-8..
On the women's side
Julia Garcia posted an impressive 11-4 record losing only to Princeton on the epee strip while teammate
Jule Shigihara went 9-6 on the foil strip.
