RIVERDALE, NY – The NJIT men's swimming and diving team notched two wins in a tri-meet with St. Francis Brooklyn and Manhattan on Saturday at Fieldston High School.
The Highlanders (4-1) defeated the Terriers 181-80 and the Jaspers 165-97, winning their second tri-meet in a row.
Out of 14 events, NJIT placed first in 11.
Scott Quirie recorded four first place finishes. Quirie was the lead off swimmer in the winning 200 medley relay with teammates
Justin Sherrill,
Edward Parks and
Jack Matusiak.
Junior Quirie swam the 200 back in 1:58.88 and then the 200 IM in 2:00.16 for two more races won.
In the 100 back Quirie came out on top again finishing in 54.80, and freshman
Kevin Roberton came in third with a time of 56.22.
Sophomore Parks placed first in the 100 fly swimming in 52.77, and also in the 200 fly in 2:00.21.
Haydn Pak also swam in the 200 fly and placed third with a time of 2:04.38.
In the 100 free Pak picked up his first of three wins, followed by teammates Parks and Matusiak coming in right behind him at second and third.
Pak's second win came in the 200 free, that he swam in 1:47.67, and
Michael Sungurov placed second with a time of 1:48.70.
Freshman Pak helped the Highlanders win the 200 free relay along with
Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos, Sungurov and Matusiak in 1:29.00.
Montarroyos picked up two first place finishes himself, in the 500 free (4:50.83) and the 1000 free (10:06.25).
Next Saturday November 13 NJIT will travel to Rhode Island to face Bryant in a dual meet starting at 12pm.
