After four seasons as a top assistant at NJIT, head coach
Brian Kennedy is set to start his first season at the helm of the program. "BK" chats with NJIT Athletics'
Matt Provence about the challenges facing the Highlanders along with the prospects for another successful season.
Brian Kennedy was introduced as the 11th head coach in program history on April 15, 2016, after four seasons as the top assistant under the Jim Engles -- during which time the Highlanders posted an impressive 70-56 record. A talented recruiter, Kennedy was extremely instrumental in luring some of the Highlanders most talented all-time performers -- such as
Tim Coleman,
Damon Lynn and
Rob Ukawuba -- to Newark.
The Monmouth University product also spent time as an assistant at DePaul University from 1997-2002, where he helped guide the Blue Demons back to national prominence with the nation's Number 1 Recruiting Class in 1999, a Top-25 Ranking and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000.
The Highlanders begin their season at home on Nov. 11, when they take on the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons at 7:45 p.m. at Fleisher Athletic Center. Tickets are available now. ClickÂ
