DOVER, DE – NJIT women's soccer posted a 0-0 tie with Delaware State in their last non-conference game of 2016 at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday.
The Highlanders (6-8-3) outshot the Hornets (4-9-1), 8-5, with Delaware State not getting a shot off in the overtime periods.
Freshman
Lizzy Wolfe and sophomore
Neema Liverpool each tallied two shots a piece for the Highlanders.
The Hornets five shots were all on goal, starting with Samantha Wanzor's shot in the 21
st minute that was saved by NJIT keeper
Karen David.
Delaware State tallied on two more shots in the first half to keep the pressure on the Highlanders.
Senior
Kaelyn Gamel had NJIT's only shot of the first half.
In the second half NJIT put on the pressure recording four shots to the Hornets two.
At end of regulation time the score was still tied 0-0, forcing the teams into overtime.
The Highlanders dominated the attack during overtime play, getting another three shots off.
In the final two minutes of play NJIT received two more chances at a goal, first coming from
Noelle Batista that soared high of the goal, and another from Liverpool that was stopped by Hornet keeper Michele Lammers.
Senior David and Lammers each collected five saves a piece in their respective shutouts.
The Highlanders will play their final regular season game of the season against Lipscomb on October 22 for a 1pm (CT) game in Nashville.
