Post Game Interview
HILLSIDE, NJ— Kennesaw State rolled to a 3-0 victory over NJIT in ASUN Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Kean University's East Campus Facility.
Kennesaw State (8-7-1, 3-3-0 ASUN) dominated the first 45 minutes of the match against NJIT (6-8-2, 2-4-0) as it out-shot the Highlanders, 8-2, and held an 8-0 advantage in shots-on-goal. The Owls finished the match with a 15-5 edge in shots, including 12-1 in shots-on-goal.
Kennesaw State had the first scoring opportunity of the match in the 14
th minute on a shot inside the box by Cassidy Kemp, but a save by Highlander goalkeeper 
Karen David, kept the match scoreless.
NJIT's David made two spectacular saves in the 22
nd minute, both diving, saves, on a shot by Mady Carter and a header by Kemp.
The visiting Owls scored the first goal of the game in the 25
th minute on a goal by Kemp, her sixth of the season.  The play started from the right side of the field with a serve by redshirt senior Brittney Reed to Kim Fincher, who was positioned on the back post.  Fincher headed the ball to a running Kemp inside the box, finishing to the left of Highlander keeper for a 1-0 score.  Owls Fincher and Reed were credited with the assist on the goal.
In the 31
st minute, Highlanders leading-scorer sophomore 
Melanie Zrno, received the ball from 
Lizzy Wolfe, who dribbled the ball down the left side of the field, finding Zrno but her shot was deflected and stayed wide.
Kennesaw State went ahead 2-0 on a converted penalty kick in the 54
th minute by Monica Herrera, her first goal of the season.
The Owls wrapped up the scoring, with its third goal in the 76
th minute on a cross from the right side of the field by senior forward Maggie Gaughan to Fincher, who finished to the lower right, netting her sixth goal of the season for a 3-0 advantage.  Gaughan and Jessica Sexton were credited with the assist.
Kennesaw State goalkeeper Mady Carter posted a clean sheet with one save while NJIT's David stopped eight Owl shots in her final home match of her career.

The non-conference portion of NJIT's 2016 slate wraps up on October 19 with a 7pm away contest at Delaware State in a renewal of the longest continuing rivalry for NJIT women's soccer.
Last season, the Hornets blanked NJIT 2-0 in Newark.  In 2015, the two programs split a pair of games, with the Highlanders taking the regular season contest at NJIT, 2-1, and the Hornets coming out on top 2-0 in the final of the four-team Division I Independent Tournament they hosted at the end of the 2014 season.
The series began in 2005 when NJIT was competing in NCAA Division II and the Highlanders hold a 13-2 advantage in the all-time meetings.
