NEWARK, NJ – Alex Fleischmann scored a hat trick in his second game of the season for the Highlanders as NJIT secured a 6-3 win over Ramapo.
NJIT snapped a three game losing streak with their 6-3 win over Ramapo. The Highlanders, who are now 2-0 against the Roadrunners this year, were also victorious back in September when they won 5-2 up in Monsey, NY.
Fleischmann's first goal came late in the first period to give NJIT a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners Patrick Anzano responded tying the game 1-1 with 25 seconds left to go in the first.
The flood gates opened in the second period for the Highlanders as they scored four goals starting with Fleischmann's second goal of the game. At the eight minute mark,
Michael Crincoli netted a power play goal to extend NJIT's lead to 3-1. Ramapo's captain Nolan Ouellette scored to cut their deficit to 3-2 midway through the second, but then Fleischmann scored his third and final goal of the game to put the Highlanders up two.
Christopher Murphy scored shortly after giving NJIT a 5-2 advantage heading into the third period.
Midway through the third period, Matthew Rose scored to get the Roadrunners up to three goals. Two minutes later, Will Hoer, a transfer from Southern Maine, scored his first goal with the Highlanders in his second game with the team.
Andrew Irizarry made 27 saves for NJIT as he recorded his first victory of the season and Keith Gay made 43 saves for the Roadrunners.
David Ferrero had three assists for the Highlanders, while
Michael Barrera had two assists and Murphy, Crincoli, and Hoer each had a goal and an assist.
Matthew Lepinski and
Kyle Bendel each added an assist.
NJIT ice hockey's next games will be played back-to-back Saturday, January 23 against Fordham at 8:30pm and Sunday, January 24 verses LIU at 1pm, both at the Prudential Center.
