NEWARK, NJ - The Highlanders were looking to rebound after a very tough outing against Sacred Heart last Sunday. They did just that as they got a win over the rivals, the Stevens Ducks 2-1 at RWJ. NJIT is now 2-1 in ACHA contests and at home.
Sal Micciche scored both goals in the 1st period to give the Highlanders a 2-goal lead. Micciche's 1st of the night came at 2:23 into the game with newcomers Niko Scherrer and Ian Etienne getting the helpers. Micciche's 2nd came at 13:08 with Paul Wendling getting his 1st assist of the season. The 2nd period was a possession game controlled by the Ducks, but they could not score and the game remained 2-0 after 40 minutes.
Stevens continued to press to cut into the lead, but were denied constantly by starting goalie Elliot Marken. It appeared that he would get a shutout, but the Ducks scored on a 6-on-5 man advantage with the net empty with 1:49 remaining. But, NJIT hung on as Marken stood strong until the final buzzer to preserve the win. Marken made 49 saves for his 1st career win as a Highlander
