Jan Cimrman competed at the Ivy Plus Tournament hosted by Princeton.
Twenty-one teams joined the Princeton men's tennis team Friday through Sunday at the Lenz Tennis Center for the Ivy Plus Tournament, the first time the Princeton will be hosting the event as a stand-alone tournament.
Last year, the event was held as an expanded Farnsworth Invitational. This year, the tournaments are separate, with the Farnsworth taking place next month.
Along with the seven other Ivy programs, Princeton hosted players from Bucknell, Buffalo, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, NJIT, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, Penn State, St. John's, Tennessee, Tulsa, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
Senior Schultz, competing in the Tiger Draw, faced Columbia's Shawn Hadavi, dropping a 6-4, 7-6 (2) decision. Schultz bounced back with a straight-set victory, topping Cornell's Stefan Vinti, 6-3, 6-1. In Schultz's third match of the day, he defeated Tulsa's Gonzalez in a three-set tilt, 6-2, 3-6, 12-10 to advance to the finals of the backdraw on against Virginia Tech's Edoardo Tessaro. In the finals, Schultz dropped a straight set decision to Tessaro, 6-2, 7-5.
NJIT's Cimrman won the opening match against Tulsa's Mitchell Pritchard in a three-set tilt, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. The sophomore dropped a straight-set decision to Columbia's Richard Pham, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.
The Highlander duo teamed for an 8-4 victory in doubles play topping IU's Priest and Salgado in the opening round. The pair dropped an 8-1 decision to Tennessee's Luis Valero and Jack Schipanski.
