TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN—Freshmen
Henrique Marques and
Julia Garcia of the NJIT men's and women's fencing teams competed in fencing's 2015 Junior World Championships in an international field that included the world's top fencers.
Marques, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, entered the Junior World Championships ranked 74
th in the world. He finished 23
rd out of 113 fencers from 47 countries.

Marques was seeded 25
th after pool competition and received a bye into the round of 64. He defeated Rajan Rai of GBR 15-12 in the top 64 but came up short against 8th seed Bartosz Cegielski of POL 10-15 in the top 32.
Marques finished 23rd at the event, 36 spots up from 59th place at the 2014 Junior World Championships.
Garcia, from Madrid, Spain, made history at NJIT, placing second in the women's epee event at the 2015 NCAA Fencing Championships on March 22. She is the first female fencer to compete in the National Championship and becomes the newest NJIT All-American.
Garcia entered the Junior World Championships ranked 117
th in the world and finished 13
th out of 113 fencers from 49 countries.
Julia went 4-2 in pools

Garcia defeated 28th seed Shiori Komata of JPN 15-8 in the round of 64 and followed up with a 15-13 win against 5th seed Anna Mroszczak of POL in the round of 32. She dropped a close decision to #4 in the world Anna Kun of HUN 10-15 in the round of 16.
She finished the epee event 13
th, 53 spots up from 66
th place at the 2014 Junior World Championships.
