VESTAL, NY—Fourth-seeded Binghamton blanked fifth-seeded NJIT, 4-0, in the opening round of the America East Women's Tennis Championships on Friday afternoon at the Binghamton University Tennis Complex.
Binghamton advances to the semifinals on Saturday at 10am to face defending America East Championships and top-seeded Stony Brook.
The score is the result of the tournament format, which calls for incomplete individual matches to be halted as soon as one team achieves the points necessary to clinch a victory.
The point for doubles is won as soon as one team wins two of the slots and the entire match is over as soon as one team wins four points overall.
Bearcats Tashiro topped Highlanders
Alba Rosas Garcia 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Tashiro teamed with Shea Brodsky for an 8-0 win at first doubles against Highlander duo
Carolina Zanotta and
Natalija Tasovac.
Annie DiMuro defeated Tasovac 6-0, 6-3 at the fifth spot.
At third doubles, DiMuro paired with teammate Sara Kohtz for an 8-1 win over NJIT pair
Sydney Nowak and Ines Vjukovac.
The Bearcats other singles winner came at the sixth slot as Agatha Ambrozy recorded a 6-0, 6-1 mark over
Valerie Carroll.
Binghamton led the other three singles matches when Annie DiMuro recorded the match clinching victory.
