HEMPSTEAD, NY—Hofstra swept visiting NJIT, 7-0, Sunday at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Center.
The Pride closed out the regular season with a 12-3 overall mark heading into the CAA Championship. The Highlanders drop to 3-13 on the season with three regular season matches remaining.
Hofstra earned the double point winning two of three doubles contests and swept all six singles contests.
Highlander pair
Ines Vujkovac and
Sydney Nowak recorded a 7-5 victory at third doubles.
For the Highlanders, three of six singles contests were decided in three sets.
NJIT's
Alba Rosas Garcia won the first set at third singles, 6-3, against Carmen Pestano but Pestano won the next two frames, 7-5, 10-6 to earn the victory.
Highlander
Natalija Tasovac went the distance at the fifth spot against Bianca Derrick dropping the first set, 6-4, and bouncing back with an identical score in the next frame. Derrick recorded the win with a 10-7 victory in
the third frame.
Senior
Valerie Carroll battled out a three-set title at sixth singles against Bianca Posa. Posa notched a 6-4 win in the first frame but NJIT's Carroll recorded a 6-4 score of her own in the second set. Posa went on to win the match with a 10-2 victory in the final set.
NJIT will return to action on Tuesday at 3pm when the Highlanders visit St. John's.
