ROCK HILL, SC—The NJIT men's tennis team dropped its second straight 4-3 decision at Winthrop Sunday afternoon, concluding the Highlanders' trip to South Carolina at Memorial Tennis Courts.
NJIT (4-4) began its trip to South Carolina on Friday at Wofford falling 5-2 and was edged by identical scores against Appalachian State and Winthrop (4-3) on Saturday and Sunday.
Winthrop swept the doubles contests to earn that point, but the Highlanders bounced back, winning the first two singles contests to take a 2-1 lead.
NJIT's
Markus Schultz won a three-set tilt at first singles against Tremayne Mitchell, 2-6, 6-4, 13-11, while Highlander
Andres Alban also went the distance at second singles, topping Dylan Comerford, 0-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Wintrop's Steven Partick edged NJIT's
Arnaud Holl 7-5, 6-3 at third singles.
Highlander
Jan Cimrman won in a third set tiebreaker at fourth singles, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, against Michael Chen.
Eagles Peter Nagovnak won by identical scores 6-1, 6-1, over
Richard Rangga at the fifth position and the match was concluded with a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Ruben Franzanti at sixth singles topping NJIT's
Luka Kaic.
NJIT will return to action on March 6 when the Highlanders host Monmouth at 4pm and St. Francis Brooklyn at 6pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
