CAMBRIDGE, MA—The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Eric Solle Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sunday afternoon.
The NJIT men went 3-2 with wins over Brown (17-10), Yeshiva (22-5) and Hunter (23-4), while the NJIT women picked up two victories, defeating Yeshiva (18-9) and Hunter (14-13).
Freshman
Simon Rizell led the men's foil squad, combining for a 7-0 overall mark in sweeping Brown and Brandeis (3-0) while also picking up a 3-0 win on the epee strip against Yeshiva.
Classmate
Henrique Marques went 8-1 in foil competition with 3-0 wins over Brown and Boston College, while earning a 2-1 victory against Brandeis. Sophomore
David Kong recorded a 7-2 recor,d while
Eduardo Ezcurra went a perfect 6-0 on the foil strip against Yeshiva and Hunter.
Freshman
Gal Gluhic recorded a 10-2 overall mark on the epee strip, sweeping Yeshiva and Brandeis while finishing 2-1 against Brown.
Cole Degeroges combined for an 8-4 record on the saber strip, earning a 3-0 win against Hunter and 2-1 victories against Brown and Boston College. Sophomore
Mike Jurewicz recorded a 5-1 mark in epee competition.
On the women's side,
Jule Shigihara was the top performer combining for a 9-0 overall mark on the foil strip, sweeping Brown, Boston College and Brandeis while also picking up a 3-0 wins against Hunter and Yeshiva on the epee strip.
Freshman
Julia Garcia went 6-1 in epee competition and 5-1 on the foil strip for the Highlanders.
